Dr. iur. Matthias Söffing

Dr. Matthias Söffing is managing partner of S&P SÖFFING. Matthias founded the law firm in 2002, originally under the name SÖFFING & Partner. With over 30 years of practical experience Matthias can draw on a wide-ranging expertise in the field of tax law. Before founding S&P SÖFFING, Matthias was a Partner at Arthur Andersen and responsible for Private Client Services. His engagement at Arthur Andersen lasted eight years in total. Before joining Arthur Andersen Matthias gained fundamental experience in the field of tax law during both his activities as judge at the local finance court of Düsseldorf, including a two years engagement at the federal financial court, and his preceding activities as official at the local tax office in Düsseldorf.

In addition to his daily work for clients Matthias is active as member of both the managing committee and the tax law committee of the DAV German Bar Association. Furthermore, Matthias delivers lectures on tax law matters at universities and congresses on a regularly basis. Matthias is author of various books which are well-known parts of German tax literature, e.g. The Limited Partnership (Die GmbH & Co. KG), The Business Split-Up (Die Betriebsaufspaltung), Commercial Property Trading and Private Property Sales Transactions (Gewerblicher Grundstückshandel und private Veräußerungs­geschäfte mit Grundstücken), Inheritance and Gift Tax Law (Erbschaft- und Schenkungsteuerrecht). Furthermore, he has published various essays and other publications concerning tax matters.

Beside his activities in the field of tax law, Matthias is very interested in sports, in particular equestrian sports. He is president of both the North Rhine-Westphalia Equestrian Sports Association and the Equestrian Sports Association Rhine Valley.
